FAQ ABOUT GETTING INVOLVED

What do I need to do to become a Liberate volunteer? First you fill out an application.  Once your application is received, processed and approved, you must put down a deposit of $40 (+service/transaction fees).  $35 of this fee will be refunded after your shift. Your will not receive a refund if you do not complete you shift as outlined.

When will I know if I have been accepted? All applicants will be notified within three weeks of applying whether they have been accepted or not.

How and When do I put down my deposit?
After you are accepted, you will receive an acceptance email, prompting you to put down your deposit via our secure online merchant account.  In order to secure your spot, you must put down a deposit by the deposit due date (August 01, 2011).

How and when will I get my deposit back? To get your deposit back, you must complete your assigned shift. If you are late for your shift, reprimanded for any reason, show improper behavior of any type, if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to sign in or out of your shift, your deposit will be forfeited. If you complete all of your assigned shifts without issue you will receive your Liberate deposit within 14 days of the festival.

How old must I need to be to volunteer at Liberate?
You must be at least 18 years or older by August 20, 2011.

Can I just show up and decide to volunteer at Liberate? No. All applicants are pre-approved by July 15, 2011.

What do Liberate team members receive? Liberate team members receive admission to the festival, a Liberate t-shirt, free camping, and an incredible experience. Water will be provided for Liberate team members while on shift.

What kinds of duties do Liberate team members perform?
Liberate team members perform a variety of jobs necessary for the festival to be a smooth success.  Departments include: Street Team, Green Team, Parking, Ticketing/Merchandise, Hospitality, On-Site Operations.  A Liberate team member may be asked to switch tasks as changes arise and flexibility is required.  If you are not able to perform certain physical activities, note specifics in your application so we can schedule you knowingly.  All tasks are supervised by a Liberate department head, who is part of the EMP staff.

How much time must a Liberate team member commit? All Onsite Liberate team members must work the TWO six hour shifts they are scheduled for admission to the festival.

What happens if I am believed to be under the influence during my shift? If a Liberate staff member or departent head feels that a Liberate team member is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the Liberate team member is relieved of all duties, the Liberate deposit is forfeited, along with any future opportunity with the festival. Please understand, absolutely no exceptions here. As this consititues a failure to complete the volunteer shifts, the volunteer will be charged a $25 cancellation fee on top of the deposit.

May I request not to miss a band? We will try to let you see your top 3 bands.  There is a question about this on the application.  We will do our best to honor your request, but the needs of the festival naturally come first. Please note that many shifts are located inside the main field with the stage and festival concert area.

Can I get a refund for a ticket I purchased before I was accepted as a Liberate team member?
This will be handled on a case by case basis. Please contact the festival staff!

May I work Pre/Post Festival Shifts? Potential Liberate team members should list all available work dates including the two days before or after the festival starts and ends.  You might be required to also work during the festival.

How is the schedule created? Schedules are determined by Liberate’s needs, volunteer experience, friend requests, music requests and any other appropriate factors.

What forms of payment does Liberate accept? ONLY credit cards/debit cards accepted.  If you do not have your own credit card, please ask a friend or family member to help you reserve your spot.

What happens if I go through the entire application process and then fail to show to the event, or fail to complete a shift? You will forfeit your Liberate deposit and be charged a $25 cancellation fee.

I’m coming to Liberate with friends who are not volunteers: Festival attendees who are not volunteers may NOT enter the festival grounds prior to the official gate opening, even if they are accompanying a working Liberate team member. If you are scheduled for a pre festival shift, make travel plans with other Liberate team members, as your Non-Volunteer friends may not enter the festival grounds until gates are open to the public.

Is Orientation required? Attendance at orientation is absolutely required.   There is one orientation on the Thursday of the festival and one the Saturday of the festival.  Your acceptance letter will include detailed information about orientation, attendance is mandatory.

Where can I stay? Camp at the festival at no charge if you are a Liberate team member. For a local hotel, if you prefer to stay in one, we recommend La Quinta St. Albans, but be advised that we do not provide ANY transportation.

Can I cancel my Liberate team membership? You can cancel anytime before the festival, but if you cancel your position within 14 days of Liberate gates opening to the public, you will be charged a $25.00 cancellation fee. If you cancel after gates open to the public, you will lose your entire deposit and ALSO be charged a $25.00 cancellation fee.

What happens if the festival is canceled?
In the unlikely event that Liberate is canceled, your application fee will be refunded.
